When employees are offered a group dental plan, they will be paying much less for their care than if they were to have individual plans. While the principle that something in quantity is almost always cheaper than individually is certainly true, making dental care much more affordable is only one of the important benefits of group dental plans.

A prepaid group dental plan can be the most cost-effective. Participants will pay only a small monthly premium, which results in much lower out-of-pocket fees for procedures. The lower premiums offered by a group plan make this method much less expensive than other types of plans. A prepaid group dental plan is one of the most affordable types of dental plans currently available.

When you select a group plan, participants are assured of the highest quality care from the most highly qualified professionals. As the plan includes a comprehensive network of dental care providers, each participant will know that he will be receiving the very best care. The skills, credentials, and methods of each dental care provider have been checked to ensure that they meet the highest professional standards. In addition to their experience, providers are kept up to date with the requirement of continuing education. This in turn assures each participant that he will receive the finest dental care available.

There are a number of valid reasons why a person may choose different types of dental plans. One example is that if a person is in need of extensive or specialized care, he may prefer an individual plan which can be best suited to his own particular needs. On the other hand, if a person is in need of dental health care coverage for his entire family, a family plan may be more appropriate. In the absence of these types of factors, however, group dental plans can be the best option. The group plan will offer the finest care, with the most affordable rates.

If you are currently an employer, you can do a great service for your employees by checking into the possibility of offering them a group dental plan. In addition to helping them to save money, this step can enhance company esteem by showing your concern for the health of your employees. Another important note as to how a group dental plan can be beneficial to your company is that when your employees have both regular, routine access to preventative dental health care and prompt access in the event of an emergency, this can mean fewer complications and, in turn, less time out of the workplace.

While there are circumstances in which other types of dental plans may be better suited to a participant's individual needs, in most cases group dental plans offered through the workplace are the best option. It is the easiest way to insure each employee's dental care at the most reasonable rates.

Raised in Tehran and London, and educated in the United States, Fariba Zargar holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from University of Houston, TX and her MBA from Pepperdine University. As we start to age it seems that one place that many start to feel the effects is in their teeth. For many it can be due to issues they have had their whole life, but for others it is just another sign of aging. Whatever the case, without dental insurance the pain of dental procedures can hurt not only your teeth, but also your wallet as well. It is for this reason that the Blue Cross Blue Shield Dental of Florida program makes so much sense.

By enrolling in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Dental of Florida program, one can save countless dollars on dental procedures and major work. In today's tough times, this can sometimes be the difference between having something done now and putting it off until it develops into something even worse. With a good dental plan there is no need to worry with the costs as it will be covered under the plan. This is especially beneficial with preventative procedures. Many find themselves putting those off in an effort to save money now. But with an insurance plan this is not necessary, preventative dentistry is generally covered by your dental plan.

With a dental plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, there are several options to choose from. It is up to each individual to decide what will work best in their particular situation. A good insurance agent can be beneficial in helping you decide what you need and what you do not. Some plans are based on one only using only providers from their list of approved providers. With this type of plan the savings on treatments can sometimes be higher than others. Another type of plan offers for pricing the procedures out rather than offering a percentage off. This is beneficial for those who like to know what a charge will be before they actually agree to it. As a final option there is a discount plan for those who prefer to use their own dentists. Whatever the plan, one still gets the dental work they need while saving money.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Dental of Florida has made every effort to develop a plan that works for every family type and in most every situation. They surely have one that will work for you and help you prevent the pain that can be caused by neglecting the needs of your teeth.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jason_Beegle

The Perks Of Using Laser For Dental Health

The Perks Of Using Laser For Dental Health

It's so slim a chance to see people raging to go to their dentists. But the fact is that many dentists are also distressed whenever they see their patients over the years with tooth problems that could have been prevented had they abided by their dentist's advice no matter what the reasons are.

Over the past years we have seen technology continuously entering the dental field and this means that words like whisper jet micro air abrasion, drill free, and a favorite among many, pain free come in continuously everyday.

We behold the laser as the best new dentistry instrument. He gets to easily break in the gum pockets with the laser and this leads to the elimination of unhygienic linings within the gums. Bacteria within the infected pockets can be eliminated with laser.

Combined with the normal root scaling is equivalent to faster healing and lower pain. It also means that a patient's dental status can be maintained for longer periods of time.

The wand is a computer controlled anesthesia system that uses a very small needle plus a topical anesthetic to numb the mouth. It is the computer that controls the amount of anesthesia and the speed at which it is run.

The technology known as the micro air abrasion system enables doctors to remove beginning decay with no shots, no drills, and fillings that are about one fourth the size of traditional fillings too.

Rather than waiting for the usual 40 or more seconds that it takes for the filling material to cure on its own, dentists use the laser and speeds this healing to just five seconds. Thanks to these lasers, the appointment for teeth bleaching rather no longer involves lot of appointments as this can be done in one sitting.

Today, patients also get to understand dental work and what they can expect after a dental visit all thanks to this technology which aids dentists as they work on people's pearly whites.

The Clinically Advanced Education System or CAESY is used to call up detailed procedures for each dental patient. The CDR is a device that enables the dental record of the patients to be entered into a computer and this computer is duly integrated with other computers in the structure.

The information here includes the dental notes, along with the patient's photograph, restorative chart and X rays, all taken without film at all.

With the film less X rays, patients get exposed to about 90 percent less radiation than in the usual X rays. The patients? teeth are now easily able to be captured in very close detail using an intra oral camera used by dentists today. Thanks to the dentists showing people the enlarged photos of their teeth, they can easily point out to them where the precise areas of decay are found. As hygienists and dentists point out the weight of brushing and flossing, it becomes understandable that good dental hygiene goes beyond a pretty smile.

As of late, studies have been released linking periodontitis or gum disease and cardiovascular ailments. Research studies on these were undertaken more than a decade ago, but then we only get to see the results on this discussed in more detail only recently.

In recent times, what we have learned is that there is a change in the model where gum disease may have an effect on many systemic conditions, principally those that are multifactorial chronic conditions like heart disease, preterm pregnancy and diabetes plus many other conditions. On how oral disease works with systemic health, we can see our perceptions change so much.

Standard procedures such as dental fillings, crowns or root canal are needed by patients who will also be attracted to the nice new dental tools. Great new advancements such as porcelain crowns, perhaps, have been made in dentistry that enable the people to have a great tooth and gum care they need, without the hideous metal look that sometimes escorts the method and this is great visually.

While most progressions being made have to do with the way the accomplished product looks, the indispensable theme remains the same, making each course of action as successful and pain free as it can get. Because of the technology, we can provide pain free dentistry, it is here, and it's here now.

By: frances geiger

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

Obesity and Dental Health

Obesity and Dental Health

Americans are fat. If the trend continues, the group estimates that by 2018 "43 percent or 103 million American adults will be considered obese."

Weight gain is associated with a lack of physical activity as well as eating too much. Statistics have proven that parents are not managing the task well for themselves, and that failure is being passed down from generation to generation.

Unfortunately this trend is not just impacting the future for our children, it is also going to wreak havoc on the cost of both health and dental care. America's Health ranking estimated that the nation's annual tab for health care can grow to $344 billion by 2018 if the situation is not addressed properly.

Concerned parents should immediately take action to protect the physical and mental well being of those they love and care for. Some steps that can help decrease your child of getting obesity related tooth decay include:

Eat more Fruits and Vegetables: Sugary snacks and empty calorie treats should be replaced with the right foods. Fruits and vegetables contain important vitamins and nutrients not associated with processed snack foods. Additional by encouraging your kids to chomp on options with high fiber content (I.E. apples and carrots) can actually help reduce plaque build up.

Exercise: No battle of the bulge was won by sitting down. Talking an evening stroll with your child or even having an impromptu dance off are fun and free ways to burn calories and sneak in a bit of activity.

Brushing and Flossing: Children need to be taught the proper way to brush and floss their teeth as they are they most essential behaviors for fighting tooth decay and gum disease.

Dental Check Ups: If your kid has already started to stroll down the wrong path, then an affordable dental plan can help make treating dental problems fit into your household budget.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_David_Carlson

<georss:box>40.384124299999996 -93.0730673 48.2455643 -78.1316613</georss:box>

Vitamins For Dental Health

Vitamins For Dental Health

Gingivitis, a form of periodontal disease, is defined as chronic inflammation of the gums. Infection invades the tissues of the gums, the periodontal ligaments, and even the alveolar bone where the teeth attach. Various dental diseases are thought to be caused by high levels of free radicals produced by plaque and tartar on the teeth, along with bacterial proteinases, and a long list of immune system responses to these problems.

Periodontal disease often starts as simple plaque. Plaque is the sticky substance that we should brush off of our teeth at least twice a day. This is because plaque harbors a lot of bacteria. The bacteria produce toxins, proteins, and free radicals that damage our gums. If plaque is allowed to harden, then it becomes tartar, which must be scraped off by your dental hygienist. Plaque and tartar form damaging oxidants and bacteria that have direct access to our gum tissues.

Inflammation in the gums also leads to increased cytokine production, which helps to thicken, bind, and harden plaque. Cytokines are proinflammatory secretions produced when the immune system senses invaders. It is meant to contain the bacteria, but unfortunately, it simply helps plaque and tartar take hold. Inflammation of the gums can cause a cascade with cytokines and oxidants making periodontal disease very hard to treat.

A strict regimen of brushing with a soft bristled brush, gentle flossing, antibacterial rinsing, and regular periodontal cleanings can help keep periodontal disease at bay. However, the slightest slip-up can cause the cycle to escalate very quickly and you’re going to have problems again. Changes in your diet, antioxidant intake, and vitamins and supplements routine can help you combat the problem from within.

Research has shown that periodontal disease can lead to heart attack, stroke, diabetes, pneumonia, arthritis, and a long list of inflammatory diseases because the gums give dangerous bacteria a free ride into the blood stream. Taking vitamins and supplements to prevent gum damage will also protect you from giving bacteria a way in, protecting you from a lot of other inflammatory health problems.

Your first line of defense is antioxidants that strengthen cell membranes and help them ward off oxidant attacks. If oxidants enter cells, they destroy them. Antioxidants also trap oxidants and flush them from the body. Antioxidants strengthen and calm the immune system, controlling cytokine production, and helping your gums to react to invaders, not overreact. A good amount of antioxidants in your diet and supplement routine will help control inflammation and reduce your chances of periodontal disease recurring.

One of the most proven ways to protect your gums from periodontal disease is to use vitamin C supplements. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. It helps to reduce binding agents, protect cells, reduce bacteria, eradicate oxidants, and strengthen the immune system. Some forms of vitamin C supplements can be very acidic and cause tooth decay. Make sure that if you are taking vitamin C supplements for dental health that you use the best vitamin C. Vitamin C powder supplements that are buffered to reduce acidity are recommended by many dental professionals.

Speak with your periodontist or dental professional about which vitamin C supplements they recommend for you.

By: Phil Le Breton

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

<georss:box>6.221956037676165 -159.07030999660492 72.49647803767617 -39.53905999660492</georss:box>

How to Know Realities About Dental Health

How to Know Realities About Dental Health
By Manu Modi

Most of the people are not much aware of the various health related aspects that are really critical. Apart from various health related issues, dental health care is also a critical concern. Many steps are being taken by various health organizations on national and international levels to bring awareness about the various dental health related problems and concerns.

Most of the people are still not aware and still believe in various traditional and old thoughts that are prevalent about the dental care. However, few myths among such traditional thoughts are not true that have been carried forward from generations.

Facts revealed are:

1. The biggest misconception among people is that they should brush their teeth as early as possible once they wake up in the morning. This is not true as dentists suggest to at least brushing twice in a day to maintain the gums and teeth in a healthy state. It also recommended to brush after dinner for 2 to 3 minutes to have shiny white teeth.

2. Most of the people still believe in that age old practice of cleaning teeth with tooth powders and with their fingers. However, this is not true as tooth powders are found to contain highly abrasive materials that normally exhaust the tooth structure and makes them rough and weary. Cleaning teeth with fingers is one of the biggest disaster people do to their teeth as it gives an incomplete cleaning. It will leave the food particles hidden in various corners and thus decaying the teeth and gums. Dentists recommend the use of soft toothbrushes as harder ones are injurious to the gums.

3. It is usually recommended to get ones teeth cleaned by a dentist at least twice a year. It is usually a misconception in the minds of most people that scaling and other cleaning procedure would make their teeth go weak and one might even lose them after such techniques. This is actually not the case but scaling and cleaning is just a technical way involving ultrasonic and hand cleaning procedure of removing the various kinds of deposits in the gums and teeth. They help in removing that matter which is usually not removed effortlessly by normal brushing and can lead to the formation of plaques, calculus and other deposits thus rendering the teeth weak and make them fall sooner.

4. As most of the people have less time and more of work, they still believe that taking any dental treatment is wastage of time as they take long and are painful. This is another thought that still prevails due to lack of awareness among people. Due to the recent advancements in dental sector, the long procedures have been reduced to 1- 2 sittings and that too in case of some major dental surgeries else most of the dental treatments are winded up in one session alone. People who are scared of painful treatments must not be terrified as anesthesia and modes of anesthetizing the patient have become even more advanced.

5. It is also another belief that the extraction is a better alternative as compared to the treatment to be taken. However, it is recommended and well known fact that original teeth can never be replaced by artificial ones. So, it is better to get the teeth treated rather than replacing or extracting them.

6. Another big misconception among people is that removing the upper molars would lead to a weak vision as there is no link between the two.

Understand the simple facts and consult an expert dentist for any treatment or extraction which shall work for good health.

Dr. Manu Modi's, Dentist in Delhi, offering world class Orthodontic treatment in Delhi.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Manu_Modi

<georss:box>35.8373005 -115.639735 36.3919915 -114.705897</georss:box>

Laser Ultrasound Helps Determine Dental Health

Laser Ultrasound Helps Determine Dental Health

This is the first time anyone has employed such a tool to find the elasticity of our teeth, besides assessing dental health and predict tooth decay and cavities.

Enamel goes through a cycle of mineral loss and restoration, through a lifetime, in which healthy teeth maintain a high mineral content.

If the balance between mineral loss and gain is lost, however, teeth can develop areas of softened enamel -- known as carious lesions -- which are precursors to cavities and permanently damaged teeth.

'The ultimate goal is to come up with a quick, efficient, cost-effective, and non-destructive way to evaluate the mineralisation of human dental enamel,' says study co-author David Hsiao-Chuan Wang, graduate student at the University of Sydney (U-S).

Wang and his adviser Simon Fleming, physics professor at the U-S Institute of Photonics and Optical Science, worked on the study with U-S dental researchers and ultrasonic researchers from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.

Stronger than bone, enamel is the hardest and the most mineralised substance of the human body -- one of the reasons why human teeth can survive for centuries after a person has died. It envelops teeth in a protective layer that shields the underlying dentin from decay, said an U-S release.

Enamel demineralisation is caused by bad oral hygiene. Not brushing, for instance, can lead to the build-up of dental plaques, and bacteria in these plaques will absorb sugars and other carbohydrates a person chews and produce acids that will dissolve the minerals in tooth enamel.

By: Shane Ennerson

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

Dental Health - Do's and Don'ts

Dental Health - Do's and Don'ts

Just like with most things, never take advantage of your dental health and beautiful smile. It's important to maintain good and consistent dental hygiene. To do this, you must make a couple short and simple sacrifices, as well as be willing to commit time to your dental health each and every day.

The first and possibly most important step is to brush your teeth twice a day. If possible, try to work towards brushing them after each and every meal. Be sure to find toothpaste that contains fluoride, as fluoride helps maintain your tooth structure, and protects your teeth from current and potential decay.

Also, make sure you use a soft-bristled toothbrush, which gently protects your gums without being too hard on them. Contrary to how most people brush, it is important to brush up-and-down, not back-and forth. Always brush for about two minutes, never too harshly. Also, don't forget to brush your tongue! Brushing your tongue scrapes off leftover food particles, and improves the smell of your mouth.

Be sure to replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or once your brush bristles become dull- whichever comes first.

While it's an important tool, a toothbrush can't possibly reach every nook and cranny in your mouth. Plenty of gunk can build up between your teeth, as well as envelope under your gums, thus causing plaque to build up. It can also lead to gingivitis or halitosis of the mouth- not to mention painful cavities. You don't have to floss as often as you brush, once a day is more than adequate.

When you do, be gentle, and ease the floss between each and every tooth. Wrap the floss around both your index fingers, and pull it back and forth so as to scrape the base of your teeth. Floss holders are available, as are disposable "plackers" which work best for tight teeth. If you find that your gums bleed, don't be concerned. So long as you keep flossing consistently, your gums with toughen up, and stop bleeding when flossed.

There are several times when you should contact your dentist. If your gums bleed, and don't seem to be recovering, go ahead and let your doctor know. Extreme hot and cold sensation could indicate a problem as well. Also, changes in your tooth structure or quick crowding of your teeth are both things that a doctor should know.

It's important to see your dentist one to two times each year. A regular appointment entails a basic cleaning, and checkup. So long as you keep your appointments regular, there will rarely if ever be a problem with your dental health. Never fear a dentist- remember, they're here to keep you healthy

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Budda_Oliver

<georss:box>37.414328000000005 -97.80249 37.95772 -96.868652</georss:box>

Technological Developments In Dental Care

Technological Developments In Dental Care

Dental technology has done more wonders nowadays for dentists and patients alike. Dental experts continue to keep themselves up-to-date with technological developments in oral health care. When you visit a dental clinic for a regular check-up or examination, you'll discover that there are options that you can choose to make your dental visit a breeze, thanks to the latest developments in dental technology.

At present, dental technology continue to grown and develop, according to Dentist Irvine. However, there are still dental practitioners who are hesitant in investing in new technologies in dentistry for different reasons. An expert from Dental Irvine said that there are disadvantages if a dental clinic is reluctant to invest in new dental technology. A dental clinic may be left behind against its competitors. Quality care and efficiency can spell the difference between a successful dental clinic and a shabby one. And if your clinic fails to keep up with today's technology, then it is nearly impossible to catch up.

Technological advances on dental practices are focused on providing patients with better care and better treatments. The use of modern equipment yields positive results. Patients get a healthier mouth, teeth and gums, as a result. According to Dentists Irvine, there are tons of information available regarding the latest trends and technology in dentistry to improve the dental health of patients. Some of these technological advancements include:

High-Tech (Digital) X-Rays

This type of dental x-rays is replacing traditional radiographs. It is faster and more efficient. It captures the mouth's image and then stores it on the computer. With this procedure, dentists can now compare previous and future images to maintain and keep updated with a patient's dental health record. Digital x-rays are able to find cavities and zero in on those bones below the teeth. It can also help an endodontist with root canal treatments.

Dental Lasers

With lasers, dentists are able to use this for tooth cavity detection and removal. Dental lasers can also produce readout of bacteria level.

CAD/CAM Technology

A computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacture (CAD/CAM) helps patients needing crowns and bridges procedures to have fewer dental visits. With this technology, the tooth is drilled in preparation for the crown. After the image is taken with a computer, it is relayed to a machine to make the crown in the office instead of going to a dental laboratory.

Dentistry Irvine said that improvements on dental procedures through the advancement of dental technology have come a long way. We now have thinner veneers that are stronger and can actually preserve the teeth over a longer period of time. There are also better bonding and filling materials for chipped tooth which are actually shinier and longer lasting. Dentists are also able to provide better dental implants that can last for more than ten years.

Advances in equipment technologies have improved the efficiency and quality of dental practice. There are many advantages such as an increase on the productivity of dental experts. According to DDS Irvine, when dentists migrate to high-technology systems, it teamwork is enhanced among member of a dental crew. It also provides more knowledge regarding the use of latest equipment, and enables dental clinic to keep up with the competition. With dental technology, it will make our dentists work easier and provide us with a much better quality of dental treatments.

By: Zyra Robinson

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

<georss:box>4.483253993682844 -153.79687249660492 71.76741899368284 -34.26562249660492</georss:box>

Dental Health: What Is Plaque

Dental Health: What Is Plaque
by Michael Russell

If no action is taken to maintain proper dental health care, acid will form and attack the tooth enamel, allowing tooth decay to penetrate into the softer tissue inside the tooth. If the decay is not treated in its early stages, it will progress to the tooth pulp, a soft tissue containing nerves, arteries, veins and lymph vessels. Eventually, an abscess will begin to form at the root - and unless endodontic (root canal) treatment is carried out, the tooth will be lost.

Plaque must be removed daily, if not, the irritants in plaque can cause swollen, red, bleeding gums. These conditions occur when plaque hardens and forms tartar (calculus) that collects around the tooth under the gum line, causing the gum to pull away from the tooth. Pockets form between the tooth and under the gum line. Plaque and its harmful by-products move down along the tooth towards the roots. When the bone is eaten away, the tooth, with little support, will become loose and fall out. Gum disease (periodontal disease) is one of the main causes of tooth loss in adults. However, if it is detected in time, it can be treated. Practising proper dental health care, you will be able to notice any warning signs of tooth decay.

Food is a huge contributing factor in causing plaque formation on teeth. Sticky, sugary foods are the traditional cause of tooth decay. However, over the past decade, scientific thinking about the connection between diet and tooth decay has changed quite appreciably. Dentists no longer talk about foods being good or bad for teeth. How often you eat and how long food remains in the mouth are considerations that are just as important as what you actually eat.

A bacterial deposit (plaque) constantly forms on the tooth surfaces. The bacteria in plaque thrive on refined carbohydrates (especially sugar) that are converted into acid. This acid damages the tooth enamel and erodes it until a cavity (caries) forms. Dental scientists have found that these bacteria can use either natural or processed sugars. Sugar in an apple is as likely to cause tooth decay as sugar in a chocolate bar.

Furthermore, the simple starches in foods such as bread, cake or cereals are broken down by salivary enzymes into the same kinds of sugars that generate the formation of acids. The main problem with sticky confectionery, such as toffee or dried fruit and with long-lasting boiled sweets, is that they remain in the mouth (and release sugar) for a long time, thereby increasing the likelihood of tooth decay. It is best, therefore, to eat sweets in moderation and to brush and floss your teeth regularly. If you must have sugary foods, restrict their consumption to immediately after meals, when increased saliva production makes them less harmful.

Another point often overlooked in dental health care for children is that children older than one year old should not be put to bed with feeding bottles containing fruit juice, sweetened tea, flavoured or sweetened milk, or even cows milk. The flow of saliva slows during sleep and the liquid can stagnate on the teeth. The sooner a mother starts cleaning a child's teeth - even if it is breastfed - the less chance of it developing tooth decay from food and drinks.

Foods that promote dental health care and especially lessen plaque formation are raw vegetables, nuts, popcorn, plain yoghurt and cheese. In fact, cheese is not only considered one of the best sources of calcium (a nutrient essential for healthy bones and teeth), but research has also shown that certain types - for example, aged Cheddar - protects the teeth against the acids that cause tooth decay.

Michael Russell

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell

<georss:box>8.216511125733824 -160.47655999660492 73.45987512573382 -40.94530999660492</georss:box>

Dental Health Plans Vs. Dental Insurance

Dental Health Plans Vs. Dental Insurance
Dental care is more and more expensive as time goes by, this is a reality. Most people might feel tempted to leave dental care aside and put it off, what do they need it for? Teeth are durable, who needs dental insurance or dental plans? They already have to bear with house insurance, car insurance, business equipment insurance, dental insurance can wait. But this is not how it should work. Actually, dental health insurance is not really that expensive, and people will benefit terribly from it.

What is the different between a dental health plan and dental insurance? Wait, are they not the same thing? No, they are not. They are two very different things, though many do not know that. And by not knowing, they are missing out on the great benefits these two financial products have to offer if combined.

Dental Insurance

This insurance product had been designed to cover the costs of dental care. It will partially or fully cover your dental care bills. By having dental insurance, you will eliminate the risk factor of a dental emergency arising and not having the money to pay for the dental procedure. Not only are these procedures extremely expensive, but also having to live with a cracked tooth or molar, for example, can be very painful.

It has been often said that regular dental insurance has many drawbacks. Deductibles are often high and maximum per year might be low, but it can save your neck in case of an emergency. Even if you have to make co-payments on the procedures, it will be better than having to pay them in full.

Other cons include the fact that dental insurance will often only cover routine check-ups, cleanings, x-rays and such, which is not very useful, as they might already be inexpensive. Most dental insurance companies will not cover cosmetic procedures or orthodontic procedures.

Dental Health Plan

Dental health plans or discount health plans are often thought of as an alternative to regular dental insurance. An annual fee is charged in exchange for discounted prices on quality dental care. These plans are activated on the very same day you apply for them, thus avoiding long waiting periods and hassles. Anyone can apply, an individual or a family group, there are no age limits, so even if you are 80 years old, you will be able to start getting discounts on your dental procedures. Consumers might get as much as 35% off of retail price on these procedures.

Another great advantage these plans have to offer, is that they include treatment for pre-existent conditions. Most dental insurance companies do not allow that.

Of course, not everything is bright and shiny. In case of a real accident, let us say a bicycle accident or car accident, your dental insurance would probably cover most of your medical bills. The best thing the dental plan would do for you in a situation of the sort is give you a discount on the procedures. These two financial products offer many advantages if used separately, but if you have the chance to combine them, you will be saving hundreds, and probably thousands os dollars on dental bills every year.

By: Amanda Hash

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dental-health1.blogspot.com/2009/05/dental-health-plans-vs-dental-insurance.html' title='Dental Health Plans Vs. Daily brushing and flossing will greatly help with your health.

Your smile is your face to the world, and if you skip brushing and flossing, you could lose that. You need to know - or learn - how to protect your good dental health, and when you should report oral health issues to your dentist.

Good oral health begins with the cleanest teeth. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, Take your time when you brush, and do a thorough job.

Use a toothpaste with fluoride in it, and only use a toothbrush with soft bristles. Use a battery-operated or electric toothbrush if you have troubles brushing effectively, due to arthritis or some other reason.
Practice using good brushing techniques, to effectively clean your teeth.

Hold your toothbrush against your teeth at an angle, and brush with back and forth short motions. Brush the chewing surfaces of your teeth, and the inside of them as well. Brush your tongue too, to get rid of the bacteria that can flourish there.

Don't brush aggressively or harshly, because this can cause gum irritation.
Make sure to safeguard your dental health by replacing your toothbrush or head every three or four months. Don't be afraid to replace them sooner if the bristles are frayed.

You can't reach under your gumline or between your teeth with a brush, so you need to practice daily flossing, as well as brushing. You should also look into using an antiseptic or antimicrobial that can help you get rid of plaque between your teeth.

You can also use an oral irrigator for your dental health concerns. This device uses water aimed at your teeth to remove particles of food. Try not to use toothpicks or other sharp objects that might damage your teeth or gums.
To prevent the start of gum disease or other oral health issues, have your dentist's office perform regular examinations and cleanings, at least once a year.

Contact your dentist between appointments if you note any symptoms or signs of tooth decay, like sensitivity to cold or heat, changes in the way your teeth align with each other, loose teeth, gums that pull away from teeth or gums that bleed when you floss or brush.

There have been substantial improvements in the overall oral health for most of the people that live in the United States during the last century. Even so, the country spends about sixty billion dollars a year on dental services. This includes about five hundred million visits to the dentist.

The costs, both financial and that which includes mortality, indicate that we need to intervene and promote good dental health for all age groups. We need to prevent oral disease in all persons, of all ages, for the entire span of their lives.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_J_Lee

<georss:box>1.8351295596374726 -159.07030999660492 70.49265955963747 -39.53905999660492</georss:box>

Dental Health: Easy Home Remedies For Healthy Teeth

Dental Health: Easy Home Remedies For Healthy Teeth

Dreaming of getting a million dollar smile? Wont be possible without a good and stunning set of teeth. But how to achieve that? Not a task. All you need is just a little more concern and time for your invaluable possession: your teeth.

Your teeth are made up of three distinct layers, namely enamel, dentine and pulp. Some food particles get accumulated every time you munch on your favorite food. And if you do not clean them regularly, the food that is stuck is converted into lactic acid by the bacterial action. This acid dissolves enamel and dentine and produces a cavity. So to avoid dental problems, it is advisable for you to brush your teeth, twice a day.

To properly remove plaque from your teeth, after brushing, gently massage your gums with your fingers. This activity increases the supply of blood in your gums. Also use a tongue cleaner; for a good and effective tongue cleaning.

Choosing the right kind of toothbrush is very crucial for the over all health of your teeth. A brush with M-shaped bristles is an ideal one. Always go in for soft bristles. Your teeth are constituted of two major elements. They are calcium and phosphorus. These elements help in hardening your teeth and also in the formation of teeth in children. Therefore your diet should be planned in such a manner that you get quite a good amount of both these elements.

Your diet plan also plays a very important role in preventing tooth decay. You should eat considerable amounts of raw foods as they are important for producing friction in your gums. The activity of friction helps in keeping the gums firm and also in removing the plaque.

These raw foods are termed as Detergent Foods. Apart from them millets and sesame seeds are good as they contain considerable amounts of calcium.

Sunflower seeds are also storehouse of various elements. They contain vitamin A, fluoride, phosphorus and calcium. Sunflower seeds also prevent bleeding of gums. Foods like parsley, turnip, beet and radishes, to name a few, contain a green pigment chlorophyll, that help you keep proper health of your teeth.

The old age tree product, Neem sticks are of great help as they are highly rich in chlorophyll. Beside this, Rose water, spirit and peppermint mixed with water makes a refreshing mouthwash.

By: Javier Fuller

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

<georss:box>7.47496741474567 -161.53124749660492 73.13324241474567 -41.99999749660492</georss:box>

Interesting Dental Health Facts

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; It has been shown that plaque that builds up on the teeth often flows into the person’s system adding plaque to the heart and affecting their coronary health as well as their dental health.

A person who has had limited or no dental health throughout their life may also end up with diseases such as gingivitis as well as severe cavities and rotting teeth. While the teeth may affect their appearance gum diseases can lead to complications in other health care concerns. Plaque is made up of colonies of bacteria and poor oral hygiene allows the bacteria to grow and infect other parts of the body. It is also a major contributor to bad breath

While bad breath is often attributed to poor dental health, it is not the only cause. Food, such as onions, is digested and put into the blood stream. As the blood returns to the lungs to be re-oxygenated, it puts the odor of the food back into the lungs where it is released as bad breath. This also happens to others such as smokers and no amount of brushing, flossing or scraping of the tongue will eliminate this source of bad breath.

Oral Hygiene Is Important

Taking care of the teeth is so important to most people and the country spends over $3 billion a year on dental health products such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss and tongue scrapers as well as breath mints and gum. While many will spend hundred of dental health products, they shy away from trip to the dentists and have a feeling of pain before they enter the dentist’s office.

In part, dentists may be to blame for some of the reluctance of people to seek professional help with their dental health. Previously, many dentists were judgmental in their approach with patients, which made them feel even more uncomfortable than the actual work being done. Today’s non-judgmental approach to dentistry is having a positive effect on good dental health.

Recent studies have also concluded that that poor dental hygiene can be a contributing factor to ischemic stroke, one of the most common types of stroke in the United States. The plaque buildup can cause release of plaque which can settle into small blood vessels more common in the brain.

By: Kimberly Graham

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

<georss:box>11.398998774169623 -166.9921875 74.73877677416962 -47.4609375</georss:box>

Dental Health - Prevention is the Best Medicine

Dental Health - Prevention is the Best Medicine
By Amy Nutt

It probably comes as no surprise to you that the best way to make sure your teeth are in good shape is to keep them that way right from the start. Even if you´ve had problems with cavities and such in the past, it´s never too late to start taking proper care of your teeth and you can start your kids early with preventative dental care, too.

Babies and Toddlers

Don't wait until those first baby teeth make their appearance. Use a damp rag over your finger to wipe your baby's gums on a regular basis. There are even rubber slip on fingertip cleaners designed specifically for this purpose and nothing apart from a little water is necessary.

Once the first little pearly whites pop through the gums, it's time to switch to a baby toothbrush. Again, use just water, since babies don't need toothpaste and it can actually be harmful if they swallow it on a regular basis. This basic dental care can continue up through the toddler years or until your child is able to spit the toothpaste out, usually around three years. Alternatively, you may look for a toddler toothpaste that doesn't contain fluoride.

Children

By the time your little one is ready to start using toothpaste, you should have a good toothbrushing routine down. Two to three times a day is good, with the brushing session lasting at least 60 seconds, though three minutes is actually the ideal. Setting an egg timer or playing a special song can help kids judge the amount of time to brush.

Adults

Many adults find that they are too busy to pay much attention to their teeth, but it is definitely worth making the effort. Regular brushing with fluoride enhanced toothpaste will help keep cavity causing plaque away and reduce your chances of getting sick due to a tooth decay issue. You will also save quite a bit of money by taking proper care of your teeth, which involves regular brushing (2-3 times a day) and flossing (at least once a day).

Despite there being specific dental care instructions for each age group, there are certain things that will help anyone of any age stay on top of their dental health and ensure that problems are stopped before they even begin.

Getting regular dental care is essential in preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Your dentist can tell you if you need to step up your brushing and flossing and can also instruct you in the right way to remove plaque from your teeth. A proper cleaning is a good idea at least once or twice a year, as well.

In addition to regularly flossing and brushing, there are other steps you can take to help prevent tooth problems. Your diet is particularly important. It's a proven fact that certain foods and beverages are more likely to cause tooth decay and stains than others. Coffee, colas and tobacco are all terrible for staining your teeth, while anything with sugar tends to promote bacterial growth and thus tooth decay. Carbs that stick to your teeth (think crackers), are also notorious for causing problems because they convert to sugar with saliva and get wedged into cracks in your molars where a toothbrush may not reach. Mouthwash can help with this.

Your best bet for healthy teeth is to eat a balanced diet and avoid junk food and having too many sweets. When you do give in to the sweet tooth, make sure you brush afterwards. A little prevention goes a long way and with the proper care, your teeth should last a lifetime intact.

source: http://ezinearticles.com/?Dental-Health---Prevention-is-the-Best-Medicine&id=1351636

Dental Health Care

Dental Health Care
By Mary Rose

Dental Health Care is one of the best prevention programs to ensure fresh breath, healthy mouth and teeth for life. Dental diseases are not considered to be fatal. Hence very often people neglect the importance of oral hygiene. Nevertheless, the cost of dental disease in pain, suffering, treatment and loss of work is huge. Teeth are meant to last a lifetime. By taking good care of your teeth and gums, you can protect them for many years to come.

Tooth decay is not restricted to children's disease. It can occur to anyone as long as natural teeth are in the mouth. It is caused by bacteria that usually exist in the mouth. The bacteria stick to teeth and form a colorless and sticky film called dental plaque.

An important part of dental health care is to know how to brush and floss perfectly. Careful brushing each day removes plaque. In addition to brushing, using dental floss is required to keep the gums healthy. Proper flossing is imperative because it removes plaque and leftover food that a toothbrush cannot reach.

The following are the brushing Tips.Worn out toothbrushes cannot properly clean your teeth and may injure your gums. So it is recommended to replace them every three or four months. Teeth should be brushed gently with very short strokes and enough pressure so that you feel the bristles against the gums. The tips of the bristles do the cleaning, so it should not be compressed. Never use a toothbrush with very hard bristles .It can damage the gums. Teeth should be thoroughly brushed at least once a day, preferably twice in a day. Children should clean their teeth after every meal and at bedtime.

The following are the flossing tips.Flossing removes plaque and food particles from between the teeth and below the gum lines where the toothbrush can't reach. As tooth decay and periodontal disease often start in these areas, it's important to clean them thoroughly and daily. A commercial floss holder may seem helpful to use. Most children cannot floss their own teeth until age 10.
Gums may be sore and bleed for the first five or six days after you floss .It is a sign that plaque and bacteria are being removed. If bleeding does persist even after a few days it is better to consult your dentist. Exercise care while flossing as improper flossing injures your gums. Consult your dentist about how to floss properly, to avoid injuring your gums.

A healthy smile is a winner at any age. Eat a balanced diet and restrict munching snacks between meals. If you need a snack, choose nutritious foods such as raw vegetables, plain yogurt, cheese or a piece of fruit. Fluoride is important for both adults as well as children. Fluoride compounds are present in drinking water and some foods. Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Replace your toothbrush every three or four months or sooner if the bristles are worn as it won't do a perfect job of cleaning your teeth.

Apart from following a good dental health care, it is essential to have regular check-ups by the dentist whether you possess natural teeth or depend on false dentures. It is also vital to abide by with any special treatments that are required to make sure of good oral health. For example, if you have sensitive teeth caused by receding gums, your dentist may advise using special toothpaste for sometime. If you have on false dentures, keep them clean and free from food that causes bad breath and gum irritation. Make sure that you brush all the surface of the dentures with a denture care product once a day. A common cause of tooth loss after one crosses 35years of age is gum disease which is also known as periodontal disease. This occurs due to infections of the gum and bone that hold the teeth in its place. Gum diseases are also caused by dental plaque.
Remember you can have just one set of natural permanent teeth in your lifetime. Take good care of it and the reward will smile back at you every time you look at your reflection. Keep away from activities that are harmful to the teeth such as smoking, addiction to caffeine etc. A healthy mouth is indeed an indication of a healthy body. By taking care of your teeth, eating a balanced diet and visiting your dentist regularly, you can have healthy teeth and an attractive smile your entire life

The Health Focus Of Dental Health Plans

The Health Focus Of Dental Health Plans
By Fariba Zargar

When you are thinking about all of the advantages you will have when you choose a dental health plan, there is a very important factor to keep in mind. While you are probably already aware of many of the advantages, you should also consider the health benefits. This is an essential factor which you may not have considered. Your health is important-- and a dental health plan will go a long way in promoting good health.

When you select a dental health plan in which you will have one primary care dentist, this will be in the best interests of your dental health. As soon as you start dealing with your dentist, he will begin to familiarize himself with your particular dental needs. When you visit your dentist on a regular basis, he will then be aware of your dental history, any potential problems, and what type of work needs to be done. Not only will this be very helpful in determining and carrying out any necessary procedures in a timely manner, but it will also lessen the possibility of missing problems which may occur or performing unnecessary procedures.

When your primary care dentist has become familiar with your dental history, it will be a very important factor in saving time and ensuring proper care. In addition, this kind of timely, proper dental care will be beneficial to your overall health in general. As there are a number of serious medical complications which can result from lack of or improper dental care, having a dental health plan which promotes regular visits to your primary care dentist will help you to eliminate this risk.

Your primary care dentist's familiarity with your dental health and history is one factor. Simply being aware of any specific problems that you may have is the surest way of having them taken care of as soon as possible. The financial aspect, however, is an additional factor. When you have a dental health plan that is right for you, you will not be as likely to skip regular visits or ignore potential problems. Your dental health plan will make proper care completely affordable. You will no longer be in a position of determining whether or not to have diagnostic or corrective procedures done based on cost, as the plan will cover all of your regular and emergency dental needs.

Your dental health and your general health are important to you. Fortunately, you no longer have to choose between your health and being economical. There is a dental health plan which will fit into your budget, without placing any undue strain on your finances. You can find the specific plan which best suits your dental care needs and your budget as well. You will be pleasantly surprised when you find how inexpensive the plan which is the most suitable for you can be.

When you think about the longterm effects on both your dental and your overall health, you will see that choosing a dental health plan is quite cost-effective. It is the most responsible way of managing your health.

Raised in Tehran and London, and educated in the United States, Fariba Zargar holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering from University of Houston, TX and her MBA from Pepperdine University. Today the cost of dental treatment is enormous.

Treatments to treat these dental diseases are of two types, occasional and routine. Occasional dental treatments include tooth extraction, braces, root canal treatment etc., while routine treatments include cleaning, plaque removal, X-rays, etc.

People today care more about their teeth and image than they did few decades ago. With wide television coverage nowadays on cosmetic dentistry, having a good-looking smile has become even more important. Dental insurance plan is a good way to reduce the impact of dental treatment especially for large families. Almost 55% of Americans are covered by dental plans.

Insurance plan for dental treatments is coverage for individuals to protect them against the high cost of dental treatments, and is usually included in health insurance. For this plan the individual has to pay a monthly premium to the insurance company. The insurance company then provides the cost of medicines and treatment procedures to the individual for a specified period. Usually the period is limited to one year.

The insurance has to be renewed after the period. The premium set by the company usually increases year by year. For sicker and older individuals the premium is higher than for healthier individuals, which has been a cause of controversy and debate in the western world. The premiums range from 15$ a month to 70$ a month depending upon the type of insurance plan taken and the health of the individual.

Dental insurance plan usually involves a lot of health records, age records, screening and paper work. The insurance company tries to avoid adverse selection. Adverse selection means people with poor dental health who are more likely to opt for dental insurance plans than healthier people. This increases the insurance cost to the insurance company. Most individual dental insurance plans require a waiting period before having any major or minor restorative work done. However there are annual limits to the cost of treatment that one individual can claim under dental ainsurance plans.

When the employer provides employer dental insurance plan then it works out better than discount dental plans opted by individuals. However the trend of employers providing insurance plans is on the decrease.

Dental insurance plans help improve the dental health of individuals as they are paying premiums and hence opt for dental treatment. Employer dental insurance plan is more common and less costly than the individual insurance plan.

source : http://ezinearticles.com/?Dental-Insurance-For-Better-Dental-Health&id=291920

This Is Why Ignoring Your Dental Health Can Be Deadly

This Is Why Ignoring Your Dental Health Can Be Deadly

Overall dental health is the routine preventive care of keeping your teeth and mouth healthy. You must take care of your teeth daily or you'll soon develop tooth decay, gingivitis or possibly even lose your permanent teeth.

Did you know that because your mouth is exposed to so many types of bacteria, it can become a breeding ground for all kinds of germs. Fortunately, by brushing and flossing regularly you can avoid most of these issues.

Dental Hygiene is necessary for several reasons. For example, if bacteria were allowed to pile up on your teeth in the form of plaque, this plaque will gradually rot the teeth causing you severe pain and bleeding.

Even worse, the infection can work its way into the jaw bone and be spread to other teeth. Even though you may be able to have that tooth pulled, if you fail to take action the infection could possibly spread throughout the body leaving you in a serious condition that could cause hospitalization or even death.

Bleeding gums (Gingivitis) is another likely problem for individuals that don't take care of their teeth. Ultimately, all of these situations can leave you with bleeding, infection and pain.

By working together with your dental provider and taking routine care of your oral hygiene, you may be spared many of these awful situations. Children's dental care is especially important because their teeth are still developing. And will carry on well into their late teens.

Proper Dental Care

Dental care for children can be started early on. This is because children love doing new things and love to have fun at the same time. Children should be encouraged to do some of the following: The children should be introduced to brushing and flossing at an early age which will show the importance of dental care by giving them the responsibility to care for their own teeth. Take children along for the annual dental visits and provide proper dental nutrition. When dental emergencies arise get them treated quickly.

Proper Nutrition for Teeth

Proper nutrition is essential to dental care in children. To encourage the combination of nutrition and dental care parents can do some of the following: Provide the required amounts of daily dairy products to help in strong bone development since teeth are bone. Provide nutritional snacks and meals without excess sugar and sweeteners Provide un sugared drinks such as milk, water and natural fruit juices.

Good Dental Care Habits

If a parent wanted to give their children a head start they could concentrate on good dental hygiene in early development to make sure it sank in.

These habits would include the following: Daily brushing after meals and especially before bedtime when plaque can do the most damage. Daily flossing to remove any food caught in between teeth Drinking water after meals to loosen anything caught in the teeth Choosing fruit or vegetables to increase energy and sustain healthy teeth and gums.

The old Dentist Visits

Dental health care includes regular visits to the dentist. Making sure that children make the visit to their dentist at least once per year helps to ensure proper dental care. Some of the things the dentist will look at during the yearly office visits include: Tooth growth Cavities Any sign of gum disease Abnormal or crooked teeth

Looking after your own teeth and setting an example when your children are young will not only help you but will also help your children. That means walking the walk, doing exactly what you want your children to do and setting an example.

By: Louise Servage

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

Dental Health: Causes And Treatment For Bad Breath

Dental Health: Causes And Treatment For Bad Breath

The medical name for bad breath is halitosis. Causes can range from poor oral hygiene habits and foods you eat to various other health problems and unhealthy lifestyles.

If you eat foods with strong odors like garlic or onions you basically have to wait until the foods have passed through your body before the odor is completely gone. You can mask it with brushing and mouthwash to cover up the odor temporarily.

All food you eat begins the breaking down process in your mouth. As food digests and is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is eventually carried to the lungs and given off in your breath.

Poor dental hygiene habits promote bacteria growth between teeth, around the gums and on the tongue, which causes bad breath. If you don’t brush and floss your teeth daily, the food particles that remain in your mouth begins to promote bacteria growth on teeth, gums and the tongue. If dentures are not properly cleaned, bacteria and food particles can cause bad breath.
Other unhealthy lifestyles that include smoking or chewing tobacco-based products can cause bad breath, stain the teeth and irritate gum tissues.

Health problems associated with bad breath include:

•Gum or periodontal disease
•Poorly fitting dental appliances
•yeast infections of the mouth
•Dental cavities
•Dry mouth (dry mouth may be caused by side effects of medications, salivary gland problems or continuous breathing through the mouth)
•Respiratory tract infections like pneumonia or bronchitis
•Chronic sinus infections
•Postnasal drip
•Diabetes
•Chronic acid reflux
•Liver or kidney problems

Tips on how to prevent or reduce bad breath include:

•Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and brush after you eat
•Always brush your tongue
•Replace toothbrush every 2 to 3 months
•Use floss or interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between your teeth once a day
•Remove dentures at night and clean thoroughly before placing in your mouth the next morning
•See your dentist at least twice a year.
•Stop smoking/chewing tobacco-based products
•Drink lots of water to keep your mouth moist
•Chew cinnamon flavored, sugar free gum (read the food label for the ingredient Xylitol. Studies show Xylitol in sugar free gum can help to destroy the bacteria in your mouth and give you that just brushed clean feeling as well. The flavor “cinnamon” has also been shown in some studies to be the best flavor to combat against bad breath.
•Mouthwashes you buy over-the-counter generally provide a temporary way to mask unpleasant mouth odor. There are some antiseptic brands of mouth-rinse products that do help kill the germs that cause bad breath. Ask your dentist which product is best for you.

In most cases your dentist can find and treat the cause of bad breath. If your dentist determines the odor is due to gum disease you may be referred to a periodontist. A periodontist specializes in treating gum conditions. If the dentist finds your mouth to be healthy you may be referred to a family physician, internist or some other specialist to determine the odor source and an appropriate treatment plan.

Disclaimer: *This article is not meant to diagnose, treat or cure any kind of a health problem. It has been shown that plaque that builds up on the teeth often flows into the person’s system adding plaque to the heart and affecting their coronary health as well as their dental health.

It is also a major contributor to bad breath.

Kimberly Graham is a retired Ph.D. and has put up a site about Dental Care at the health and medical portal
